McLoney 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- The 39th Maintenance Squadron hosted building dedication ceremony at Incirlik Air Base, Türkiye, Dec. 19, 2022. The ceremony marked the official completion and opening of the new 39th MXS munitions flight facility, which was designed to provide a streamlined means of communication for Airmen. “[Having] most of our supervision, stockpile, munitions control, munitions inspectors and the munitions operations shop in one centralized location will help solidify camaraderie and alleviate communication shortfalls,” said Staff Sgt. Mel Mills Jr., 39th MXS munitions operations supervisor. “The new up-to-date facility will upgrade the quality of life for everyone involved while ensuring more stout and sophisticated security that is in line with our regulations.” Senior Airman Darius Williams, a munitions controller assigned to the 39th MXS, highlighted how airman-friendly the new work environment is for him and his wingmen. “Our new building gives us a lot more room for meetings and breaks, allowing us to avoid the weather outside and stay cool and dry,” he said. “It also offers a kitchen area and showers in the restrooms so we have more options that don’t require us to travel across base during lunch.” Master Sgt. Wesley Walker, 39th MXS munitions flight chief, explained how the new facility has modernized the flight’s operational capabilities and enabled leaders to develop Airmen more effectively. “This building allows us to consolidate six elements spread across four buildings down to one facility, which dramatically reduces communication gaps and job delays,” he said. “It also allows members to cross train and aid in elements they haven’t worked in before, which develops them into more well-rounded ammo troops.”
