  • A decade in waiting: Incirlik Airmen visit Adana school

    Surrounded by textured colorful walls, classical piano riffs signaling the class bell and the chatter of middle schoolers, eight Incirlik Airmen made their way across campus. Understanding that having a presence in the community is an essential aspect to nurturing alliances, Airmen spent a day with more than 1,000 students and faculty during a local school visit May 9, 2019, in Adana, Turkey. During the visit, they discussed their jobs and role in the Air Force, STEM opportunities and American culture.
  • A squadron stacked with love

    The first 15 minutes of our time in Izmir was a blur. Our host nation advisor eagerly walked, or should we say sprinted, us through the city trying to share everything his home had to offer. As we took a sharp left down another colorful market-filled street bustling with women and men conducting business, running errands and gathering for lunch, children lined a three-storied balcony cheering boisterously to something starting in the courtyard. As we slowed our roll, our HNA looked at us inquisitively, as if to say, isn’t this normal? In that moment though, the roaring hustle of the city seemed to pause with us as we waited to see what could possibly have everyone’s admiration and attention – a potato sack race of all things.

    Being a U.S. Airman means being flexible, adaptable and innovative, but it also means caring about others and going above and beyond the call of duty. For U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jordan Walker and Airman 1st Class Valtrice Sullivan, 39th Security Forces Squadron contingency members, going above and beyond meant giving back to the local community.
