To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we’ve asked Airmen of Hispanic heritage from across the wing to share their stories and why they serve: Tech. Sgt. Marleny Barboza is a first generation Mexican-American from Pacoima, California but her parents are from the Mexican state of Durango. She is admin by trade, but serves the 39th Communication Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of the Commander Support Staff. A typical day in the office for her is answering emails, setting up meetings for their commander and just overseeing that we take care of the folks in our unit with any personnel issues they may have. “It really does keep me on my toes since no day is the same,” Barboza stated. When asked why she serves, Barboza said, “I joined to be a good example for my younger sister, my nieces, my nephews and for the little Latina girls that run around knowing they can do things just as well if not better than the boys.”
