Ask Mehmet: What is Pismaniye?

Pastries are lined up for display at a local bakery near Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. One local treat called pişmaniye is similar in texture to cotton candy, but made in fine strands by blending flour roasted in butter into sugar. Since it can be stored for a long time and no refrigeration is required, buying pişmaniye as a gift for your family and friends is a very common tradition throughout Turkey.
