Luminary bags were distributed throughout Arkadas Park during the Relay for Life event as part of the ending ceremony May 21, 2011 at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Luminary bags are paper bags filled with sand and a candle to illuminate the bag. Incirlik raised $21,824 in contributions this year. The relay helped raise money for cancer research and cancer patients. The event is held to spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors and remember those who lost their lives to cancer.
