Four Chaplains Run
Members of the 39th Air Base Wing run to commemorate four World War II Army chaplains who sacrificed their own lives aboard the USS Dorchester by giving up their lifejackets to save others as the ship sank at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, Feb. 22, 2019. The ship set sail from New York on Jan. 23, 1943, and was sunk by a German submarine on Feb. 3, 1943. Of the 902 members onboard the ship only 230 survived.
