Four Chaplains Run
U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Sherrie Lewis, 39th Mission Support Group superintendent, leads Airman Leadership School Class 19-C during the Four Chaplains’ Run Feb. 22, 2019, at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. The Four Chaplains’ Run was hosted by the chaplain team in memory of four World War II Army chaplains who sacrificed their own lives aboard the USS Dorchester by giving up their lifejackets to save others as the ship sank. Four Chaplains Run
A volunteer directs runners during the Four Chaplains’ Run Feb. 22, 2019, at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. The chaplain team hosted the 5K in memory of four World War II Army chaplains who sacrificed their own lives aboard the USS Dorchester by giving up their lifejackets to save others as the ship sank. In July 14, 1960, the Four Chaplains’ Medal was approved to recognize their heroic actions and to date they are the only ones to ever receive the medal.
