Knapp created a prototype 3-D printed toolbox latch that has been used to replace latches on 50 of the squadron’s toolboxes, saving more than $17,500. Staff Sgt. Adam Knapp, 728th Air Mobility Squadron C-5 Galaxy crew chief, holds a 3-D printed toolbox latch December 6, 2023, at Incirlik Air Base, Türkiye. Toolboxes belonging to the 728th AMS kept having the latches break, and replacement parts or boxes took as long as two months to be delivered and cost the squadron $450 each.
