We hear it all the time - "Get out and explore Turkey. There are so many things to see and do around the local area."

Yes, Turkey has many wonderful things to offer and the 39th Force Support Squadron can help you enjoy them. Our Outdoor Recreation and Information Tickets and Travel offices offer a variety of trips and tours each weekend. If these don't meet your needs, give either office a call; they can discuss options for designing your own custom tour.

Need some ideas on where to go and what to do? Then watch for the new "Incirlik Interchange" -- the Internet forum launching from the 39 FSS Web site, http://39fss.com/. We hope this site will grow and provide valuable tips to help you get out and explore. If you can offer any travel advice, please visit our forum and share it with the community. Also, Fred Moore, 39th Contracting Squadron, will be rounding out our Happenings magazine with a new travel tips section. Mr. Moore provides a wealth of information as he has lived in Turkey for 11 years and has traveled extensively throughout the area.

On the other hand, you can take advantage of our location to carve-out and develop some of the American experience on this side of the world. Did you know there will be a Fall Festival Oct. 18 at Arkadas Park? This family-focused, outdoor event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is geared to celebrate the season. There will be a scarecrow-making contest, pumpkin seed spitting and hot dog eating contests, pumpkin decorating, brass rubbings, vendors, food, drink, live music and much more. I am looking forward to the day. Please come and join us.

The go karts are a great activity newly available on Incirlik. These karts aren't your typical four-wheeled motor cart. They are fast and fun! I encourage you to go out and give them a spin. If the weekend hours aren't conducive, give Outdoor Recreation a call and they will set up private group functions. It is a great team building activity.

Coming soon is the Ghoulish Golf four-person scramble. This tournament is designed for those who really want to come out and just have fun. Wear a costume and take two strokes off your game. Lunch is included and there will be prizes galore.

At the Youth Center, children have great opportunities with a wide variety of clubs to keep them involved. There are many programs going on this month, to include Halloween Movie Night Oct. 24, Kids Night Out with food and a movie Oct. 17 and the big Halloween Bash Oct. 31. The bash includes a costume contest, music and game. Prizes for costumes will be awarded in five categories across five age groups.

While at Incirlik, I encourage everyone to get out, be active, and, most of all, take time to enjoy your stay with family and friends.

Please call Outdoor Recreation at 676-6044 if you have any questions.
