Incirlik hosts AF birthday bash Published Sept. 23, 2013 By Senior Airman Daniel Phelps 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Members of the Incirlik community came together to celebrate the 66th birthday of the Air Force Sept. 20 at Arkadas Park. Families were treated to Air Force heritage displays created by various squadrons, bouncy houses, games, grilled food, snow cones and the announcement of the recipient of the Incirlik Company Grade Officer Counsel's Pamela Scott Memorial Scholarship worth $500. The scholarship was awarded to the winner of an essay contest and was created to encourage junior enlisted Airmen to further their education. Technical Sgt. David Wright, 39th Contracting Squadron, beat out 16 other E-1 through E-6 Airmen who submitted essays for the contest. President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act July 26, 1947 which authorized the Air Force to be formed out of the Army Air Corps on Sept. 18, of that year and to become a separate military branch.
