The 39th Maintenance Squadron transfer transport team was awarded the "Pick of the 'Lik" for the week of Dec. 26, here.

Master Sgt. Joy Hice, Staff Sgt. Joshua Cabral, Senior Airmen Steven Coalson and Giovanni Costanza, and Airman 1st Class Frank Kane were performing a munitions task inside of a protective aircraft shelter when Cabral noticed the munitions lift was smoking. Coalson lifted the engine cover to inspect the machinery, exposing flames. Cabral immediately ran to the nearest fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Hice and Cabral then moved two practice munitions to a safe location while Kane secured all materials and evacuated the area with Coalson. Hice then notified munitions control of the incident.

By pre-coordinating their response and maintaining a high readiness level, the team safely controlled the incident, safeguarded equipment and maintained security protocols until emergency responders arrived on scene.

The 39th Air Base Wing leadership recognizes Airmen who are handpicked by their unit leadership for demonstrating outstanding leadership and job performance abilities.
