Ever dreamed of becoming a millionaire, financially successful or building a good credit score? The 39th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center is taking the initiative to teach all about these topics and more as part of the annual Military Saves Week Feb. 24 to March 1, 2014.

Throughout the week the A&FRC will hold classes and encourage military members to 'take the pledge' to save towards a goal at the Military Saves Week website here as part of this annual event's week theme, 'Set a Goal. Make a Plan, Save Automatically.'

"Military Saves Week is a campaign to increase financial awareness throughout the military and to help people commit to saving to build wealth and pay off their debts," said Jim McDaniel, A&FRC community readiness specialist. "A lot of people feel like their money is controlling them. I want them to change their perception. Instead of just saying it's to buy stuff, the money that they're making can make them financially secure someday if they just save a little bit, invest a little bit and don't get themselves into financial difficulties."

All of the Military Saves Week classes are from noon to 1 p.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Center Classroom and are open to all Airmen and dependents who want to attend. Classes available during the Military Saves Week are as follows:

Feb. 24 - Planning for Financial Success: Learn how to become financially successful, get out of debt, build an emergency/transition fund, and invest to reach your financial goals.

Feb. 25 - How to Become a Millionaire: Learn how to become a millionaire.

Feb. 26 - Home Buying: Learn how to build wealth by financially preparing to buy the best home you can afford. Learn to avoid foreclosure before you purchase a home.

Feb. 27 - Retirement Planning: Learn how to take the steps now to financially plan for that retirement that you are currently dreaming about.

Feb. 28 - How to Improve Your Credit Score: Learn nearly everything you wanted to know about credit, but were afraid to ask. Learn how to avoid costly mistakes and how to improve your score.

Even after the campaign members can still pledge at militarysaves.org and receive information monthly on ways to save money. For more information on financial classes at the A&FRC or to speak to a financial consultant, call DSN 676-6755.

"The biggest thing is I want Airmen to focus on is that they can become financially successful and secure on military pay whether they stay in the military or not," said McDaniel. "They just need to commit to it and say 'I plan to spend less than I make and save or invest the difference' and also look in the mirror or to their families and say 'we're doing this for each other.'"
