Holiday esprit de corps Published Oct. 7, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Caleb Pierce 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Fall not only brings cooler weather here at Incirlik AB, but also welcomes the holidays that people often celebrate and decorate for, to invite in the esprit de corp. Holiday decorating is welcomed and encouraged year-round. However, knowing the limitations on what residents can or cannot do is beneficial to safely enjoying the holiday. "It is important that we continue to celebrate our holidays when we are a long way from home and decorations are a part of that celebration," said Kenneth Boxx, family housing manager. Family housing and dorm residents are authorized to decorate their residence as long as they follow proper guidelines. "We know it can be a challenge for members being away from home whether it's their first holiday, or they're used to it," said Staff Sgt. Brian Delacruz, unaccompanied housing manager. "Therefore, we encourage all our residents to get in the holiday spirit and decorate inside and outside of their doors, as long as their nameplate is visible, and are within standard dormitory regulations." The guidelines are listed in the family housing brochure and a copy is available to all incoming personnel and by request. Here is a list of the guidelines for decorating below: - Decorations may be installed no earlier than 30 days prior to the holiday - Decorations must be removed 15 days after the holiday - Illuminated decorations may only be operated between 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. - Rooftop decorations are not authorized - Non-host nation flags will not be used as ornamentation - Decorations will not interfere with the operation of rain gutters and downspouts - No component of the unit will be removed for the purpose of decorating - Decorations will not inconvenience or infringe on the privacy of neighboring units With all these guidelines in-place, we residents should use proper safety and remember that the operation of the decorations is a responsibility of the member. "Please enjoy the holidays and remember to be safe when installing or removing any decorations," said Boxx.
