Incirlik Airmen observe Veterans Day Published Nov. 12, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Eboni Reams 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- A Veterans Day retreat ceremony was held in front of the 39th Air Base Wing headquarters building Nov. 10, here. 150 Airmen with different mission requirements and responsibilities were bonded by the common responsibility to show respect for all Veterans who served past, present and future. "Veterans Day is a holiday which is very meaningful to my family and me," said Staff Sgt. Emily Gaffey, Incirlik 5/6 club president. "It is important we don't just take the day off from work each year, but really reflect on what the holiday means to us as a nation. Honor is due to those who have served past and present and the sacrifices they made and are making daily. The retreat ceremony was in honor of that. It is just one small piece we can do to show respect. Soon, we will be the past and will want to be remembered in years to come." A flag folding and rendered salutes to the nation's colors was the pinnacle of the event. As 'Taps' played the Airmen stood sharp and motionless, seemingly in deep thought, as the American flag was raised to the top of the flag pole before being lowered and ceremoniously folded.
