A suspicious vehicle was identified by military working dogs and security personnel during a routine check at the front gate at approximately 8:20 p.m. here.

As a precaution, security forces closed the front gate, established a cordon and people in the local area were told to shelter-in-place.

The 39th Civil Engineering Squadron explosive ordnance disposal team responded to the incident and found the vehicle and passengers to be non-threatening.

"We take incidents like this very seriously and will investigate them to the fullest extent to ensure the safety of our Airmen and their families," said Col. Craig Wills, 39th Air Base Wing commander.

The main gate has reopened to the base populace.
