Eboni Reams 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- A Department of Defense Joint Staff Integrated Vulnerability Assessment team visited Incirlik Air Base Jan. 26-30, here. JSIVA, part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, assessed several Incirlik AB units and their ability to protect against or respond to terrorist attacks. The team consisted of risk management specialists, a structural engineer and other specialized members facilitating a week-long review of the base's facilities and force protection plans. "This is not an inspection," said U.S. Navy Capt. Thomas Huerter, JSIVA team chief. "We're here to help." The JSIVA team held several interviews with key agencies which support the base in case of an emergency. Each agency received advice from a subject matter expert on anti-terrorism tools. The 39th Air Base Wing vice commander shared the importance of the JSIVA visit. "JSIVA teams are a unique organization with an incredible breadth and depth of experience," said Col. Mark Anarumo. "While Team Incirlik has done an outstanding job of mitigating vulnerabilities, JSIVAs are great tools to enhance our procedures to ensure we continue to protect our people and resources. Their assessments always provide great feedback on how to improve security."
