Vegas Clark, 39th Air Base Wing command chief, visited the 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery at Gaziantep, Turkey, May 21, 2015. Clark was invited by Command Sgt. Maj. Eric McCray, 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Battalion command sergeant major, to speak at the Noncommissioned Officers Induction Ceremony as well as tour the site, meet soliders and learn more about the Patriot mission. As the guest speaker, Clark gave advice to the new NCOs about their responsibilities as leaders. "Today I say congratulations on your amazing career milestone," said Clark. "It is always great to move up in the ranks and get a chance to have more impact on the mission." In addition, Clark explained that the NCOs being inducted will also face many challenges as they assume more responsibility. "There are three key qualities that will help you as you embark on this tough, yet rewarding journey," said Clark. "First, as an NCO, everyone is looking at you, therefore you must lead by example. Secondly, leaders must be willing to improve and lastly, you have to give honest feedback." The topics that Clark spoke about were just the tip of the spear for the new NCOs and what lies ahead. Clark left the new NCOs with some final encouragement, as he closed out his speech. "You will have big challenges as you gain responsibility as NCOs," said Clark. "Embrace the challenges, the Army is counting on you to get it right and remember you serve the greatest country in the world."
