Incirlik strengthens partnership with motorcycles Published June 8, 2015 By Staff Sgt. Caleb Pierce 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Members of the 39th Air Base Wing and the 10th Tanker Command came together June 5, to participate in a joint Motorcycle Safety Fun Day helping to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Turkish-American partnership at Incirlik. The annual event, hosted by the 39th ABW Safety Office consisted of motorcycle safety related information, riding and food, which allowed members to share their experiences with each other as well as an opportunity to have fun and celebrate the anniversary in a different way. The event kicked-off with a basic rider course demonstration taught by Master Sgt. Scott Fasulo, 39th Communications Squadron cyber transport systems section chief and motorcycle rider coach, a bike show, reception and ended with a group ride. "This is the second year we have done a joint motorcycle event and we are putting it on because the Turkish want to learn and benchmark our motorcycle safety program," said Maj. Jeremy Patrick, 39th Air Base Wing chief of safety. "It also gives us a great opportunity to learn from them and they learn from us and bring the community together." Not only did the event bring camaraderie, but it was a way for service members and their counterparts to do something they don't normally get to do during the week. "It's a great key event to combine and integrate," said Patrick. "It's a much more fun thing to do on a typical Friday. You get to be outside, be around people you like and motorcycles, and share some experiences and culture." Tech. Sgt. David Rodriguez-Thillet, 39th Security Forces Squadron NCO in-charge of plans and programs and a participant and a coordinator of the event, explained the benefits of the event. "The event is awesome; this is the second one and it's amazing," said Rodriguez-Thillet. "You can see how they ride and the differences from how we do and learn from it. If we keep doing these joint rides our experience and partnership will only get better." Continuing to have these partnership events is a long-term goal for the safety office and others amongst the wing. "Wing leadership has been very supportive and we hope to make it bigger and better next year," said Patrick.
