The 39th Air Base Wing commander, Col. Craig Wills, recently updated the Incirlik Air Base supplement to include additional no hat, no salute areas for service members, here.

Customs and courtesies are a part of Air Force culture no matter where a service member is located. Due to the location of certain areas, restrictions have been set in place for the purpose of the mission and safety.

"Saluting is a custom and courtesy that displays a sign of respect from enlisted to officers, as well as to the flag," said Master Sgt. Andre Ancic, 39th Comptroller Squadron and Wing Staff Agencies first sergeant. "It's a tradition needed for order and to show proper respect for the chain of command. Saluting is not just the polite thing to do, but the right thing to do."

The areas on Incirlik that are now authorized for no hat, no salute areas include flight line areas, the 39th Operations Squadron pavilion, which is immediately adjacent to the flight line and the Chapel Meditation Area.

Locations on base that require the wear of hats and rendering a salute are the American Eatery, the Golf Course and Starbucks.
