Avoid ‘Boo-Boos’: Stay safe this Halloween

Everyone wants a safe and happy Halloween for their children and friends. The best way to prevent mishaps and injuries from occurring is through risk management and proper planning.

The safety tips and suggestions below can help everyone, young or old, make sound decisions while keeping the holiday as enjoyable as ever.

· Familiarize yourself with the route your children plan to take to trick-or-treat

· Accompany young children. If they are in a group, make sure they are being escorted by an adult.

· Ensure costumes are fire retardant and do not obstruct the wearer's ability to see.

· Keep children visible! Have them carry a flashlight, wear reflective material, or glow bracelets and necklaces.

· Keep decorations away from heat sources and open flames.

· Ensure breakables items are out of the way during parties.

· Know your areas trick-or-treating hours.

· When driving, keep your speed well below the posted speed limit.

· Watch for kids darting out from between cars or behind things that obstruct your vision.

· Keep your headlights on.

· Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully.

· Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.
