Trash talking runs high before football playoffs

Incirlik Air Base is raring up for the Intramural Flag Football Playoffs starting Nov. 6. The season has been a tough one with a lot of close calls but the two teams who came out on top in the regular season were the 728th Air Mobility Squadron, ranked second, and the 39th Logistics Readiness Squadron, ranked first.

The 39th LRS isn't worried at all about the competition or the playoffs.

"Our hardest competition this season, and will be in the coming playoffs is ourselves when we scrimmage with each other," said Benjamin Herron, 39th LRS flag football Coach. "I mean the only teams we are actually looking forward to playing are Ohio State and Michigan since they are undefeated. Everyone else, no worries, we can take them."

The 39th LRS says they have learned throughout the regular season that they can adjust and play through adversity no matter the situation. "We have mental toughness and that is important in any kind of sports arena," said Herron.

The 728th AMS on the other hand isn't impressed with 39th LRS talking.

"AMS is the best," said Greg Butcher, 728th AMS flag football coach. "That pretty much says it all about us. I am more worried about the 39th Maintenance Squadron team; they seem most determined and have a stellar quarterback. I've seen LRS at their best and I am not too impressed."

39th LRS understands AMS's beef with them and knows when you're No. 1 everyone is gunning for you.

"When you're number one everybody goes for the underdog," said Herron. "We are about to enter C-Ship mode next week. We just need our Krunk juice (two red bulls) and it is on ... bring your A game when you play LRS and slide the officials an extra $20 and you might have a chance."

Although LRS feels they are invincible, the AMS team knows the playoffs require a different mind set than the regular season.

"Those guys are better talkers than football players," said Butcher. "Life skills should come to the games and make sure they are as mentally stable as they claim to be after they lose to AMS. We have a little something cooking up for those guys, and it isn't those wonderful airline meals. They can drink all the Red Bull they want to, maybe that will give them an excuse for those wet spots on their shorts ... hey, it might even help them stop being so salty after we beat them."

No matter the outcome of the games, everyone seems primed and ready to represent their teams in the playoffs.

A source in the 39th MXS who wished to remain anonymous said, "the funniest part of the LRS and AMS teams doing all that smack talking is the fact that we are going to win the championship."

The first playoff game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the flag football field by the Incirlik American School between 39th SFS and 39th MDG. Come see the action!
