Rose Richeson 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Cooking, decorating and celebrating are all traditions in preparation for holidays and with Thanksgiving Day less than two weeks away this message should get to you just in time. Since 1998, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has reports of 75 incidents that involved fires, flames or burns associated with turkey fryers. Make sure you are following these tips if frying a turkey this year. Turkey Frying -- Always fry your turkey outdoors a safe distance from buildings and any other material that can burn. -- Never fry turkeys on wooden decks or in garages/car ports. -- Make sure to use a flat surface to avoid accidental tipping. Accidents and mishaps should never be a worry when the focus is on spending time with family and friends. By following these tips your chances of having a safe and happy holiday will increase tremendously. Cooking -- Don't leave food that is cooking unattended for a lengthy period of time. -- Turn pot and pan handles inward and not sticking out. -- Do not put knives or other sharp objects into a full sink. Decorating -- Never leave candles unattended or within the reach of children. -- Decorate only with flame-retardant or noncombustible materials. -- Place decorations away from heat sources and exits. Celebrating -- Always designate a non-drinking driver. -- As the host, provide non-alcoholic beverages to guests that are designated drivers. -- Buckle-up and make sure all other passengers are wearing safety belts. -- Be a good Wingman and have a good Wingman.
