The 16 detachments were tasked with making a one-minute film celebrating the Air Force's diamond anniversary and when two members of AFN Det. 7 here got the word, they took it upon themselves to go above and beyond. "When we were notified about the competition in celebration for the Air Force's 60th anniversary, Senior Airman Andrea Wright and I volunteered to create and produce the spot," said Airman 1st Class Alex Griffin, AFN Det. 7 broadcast producer. "The theme for the spot was 'Heritage to Horizons,' and we used footage from the Air Force's past and present to tell a sixty second story of where the Air Force has been, where it is going and attempt to convey what it means to be a part of the United States Air Force." Not only did the two-man broadcast team produce a quality product, they were given top honors and their spot was named best in show. "It was an honor for our spot to be selected as the winner, especially after putting so much effort into its production," Airman Griffin. Airman Griffin said that not only were he and Airman Wright acknowledged among their peers as having the best short production, they were also given another prize. "For wining we will serve as representatives as part of the AFNEWS team that travels to the 2007 National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas from April 14 through 19, 2007 to evaluate equipment and services for future use within AFNEWS operations," he said. "Our spot will also be broadcast worldwide on all affiliates," he added. Airmen Wright and Griffin worked on the piece for three weeks both on and off duty and were lauded by their boss.
