It's never good to be called a loser but the Incirlik Health and Wellness Center is making the biggest losers winners.

Beginning Jan. 7, the HAWC will be sponsoring the Incirlik Biggest Loser competition for the second year.

"The idea behind the Biggest Loser competition is to get base members motivated to lose weight in a healthy way," said Staff Sgt. Karen Garza, 39th Medical Group health and wellness center diet technician. "We promote a healthy lifestyle and incorporate that as much as possible through the Biggest Loser."

During the competition, contestants can set up individual nutrition and fitness appointments and planned fitness activities will be available for each team to participate.

Each month, the team with the best weight loss percentage will receive an assortment of prizes with a grand prize in April for the overall winners.

"Our main focus is to promote healthy eating and exercising habits," said Sergeant Garza. "With these two components anyone can lose weight."

Last year more than 200 individuals signed up with a grand total of 758 pounds lost.

"I enjoyed the competition last year," said Staff Sgt. Delilah Roberts, 39th Mission Support Squadron NCO in charge of evaluations and decorations. "It motivated me to get up at 5 a.m. every morning to workout. I lost more than ten pounds during the competition. Team workouts really helped."

The HAWC staff is exited to capitalize on the success of last year's program and hopes to do it bigger (or smaller depending on your perspective) and better in 2007.

"The entire program was a success last year and we hope to see this year's success just as big," said Sergeant Garza.
