MOAA scholarship season open

The Military Officers Association of America officially began its 2007 "Base/Post Scholarship" program recently, and will be offering individual $1,000 grants to 25 dependents of active duty personnel worldwide.

To be eligible, a student must be under the age of 24, working on their first undergraduate degree, and a dependent child of an active duty service member.

Grant recipients will be randomly selected from among applicants within in each of the services. Grade point average, SAT scores and essays are not needed for the Base/Post application. MOAA membership is not a requirement.

The application is via e-mail at http://www.moaa.org/. Choose "Services," then "Educational Assistance" to find the online application. Follow the easy instructions for the multipurpose scholarship application. The deadline for submission is noon EST March 1.

Semi-finalists will be notified by e-mail and can self-check on the Web site by mid-March. Winners will be notified in May.

MOAA is the nation's leading association for military officers, with nearly 390,000 members. Membership is open to active duty officers and warrant officers, Reserve and National Guard officers, former or retired officers and warrant officers, and surviving spouses.
