MAINZ KASTEL, Germany - As previously announced the Army & Air Force Exchange Service began adjusting gasoline prices Feb. 1, based on the current weekly U.S. Department of Energy average price plus incremental costs associated with providing gasoline overseas.

Military families assigned overseas made it clear they would prefer weekly price changes to the previous method of changing prices monthly.

"Weekly adjustments to gasoline prices will keep Europe prices more in line with what military customers are paying in the States," said Jack Morris AAFES Europe senior vice president,. "The first price change will be February 1, then beginning February 10, gasoline prices will change each week at 12 a.m. local time Saturday mornings."

AAFES fuel coupon prices sold in Germany and the Netherlands along with the new POL Rings in Turkey will also change weekly. Gasoline coupons sold in Italy are administered by the Navy Exchange System and are not affected by this change in pricing frequency.

According to DoE, the average price for regular unleaded fuel in the U.S. is 19.2 cents a gallon lower than it was at the same time last year. As a result, this week's sell prices reflect the following average decreases per gallon, by grade:

Regular - 13.4 cents Mid-grade - 12.7 cents Premium - 12.5 cents Diesel - 18.9 cents

For the week ending 29 January 2007, the DoE average price for all grades of fuel decreased. As a result, gas prices for AAFES Europe for Feb. 1 to 9 will be as follows:

Turkey:

Super Unleaded - $2.453

Diesel Coupon - $2.586
