With the unit compliance inspection less than two months away, the entire 39th Air Base Wing is cracking down in preparation to receive the coveted "Outstanding" rating.
Base members should remember that while doing all that preparation, not to let the most important thing slip ... safety.

"As we prepare, I only hope we don't overlook the obvious - the areas I call "Freebies," said Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Antwine, 39th Air Base Wing command chief. "Freebies are the things that we have total control over and will set the tone of the inspection."

Safety is definitely an area where Team Incirlik has been doing a great job.

According to the 39th ABW safety office the wing has had zero loss time mishaps in fiscal year 2007.

"All of us know what we are doing," said Master Sgt. Darnell Edmonds, 39th ABW ground safety manager. "Just wearing protective gear, asking for help when needed and following the regulations should get Team Incirlik through this inspection with flying colors."

Safety is not just an on the job concern, Team Incirlik is also stressed to use safe practices off duty.

"Many times, we will focus all of our energy on safety on the job, but remember not to get complacent at home," said Sergeant Edmonds. "The bad habits or lack of attention today will be the cause of a mishap tomorrow."

Everyday occurrences like not leaving lighted candles and stoves unattended should be focused on along with wearing seatbelts (even in the taxi) and wearing helmets on bikes. These actions will help keep base members free injury and ready to do their part during the inspection.

Remembering the little things on and off duty will help Team Incirlik soar through the UCI.

"The mission can't be completed unless everyone is available and 100 percent ready for duty," said Col. "Tip" Stinnette. "Keeping safety in the forefront of your mind will help us achieve our goal and will help us continue to ensure freedom's future."
