728th AMS excels during LSEP Published April 6, 2007 By Senior Airman Tim Beckham 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- If it seems like there are a couple more shaven heads roaming around Incirlik don't be alarmed; it's just the officers and senior noncommissioned officers in the 728th Air Mobility Squadron who shaved their heads after going above and beyond during the squadron's recent inspection. The team of inspectors looked at three areas within the air mobility squadron. "The Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Program is an aggressive performance-based technical compliance inspection on AMC logistics operations--for the 728th, the inspection team looked at maintenance, forward supply and aerial port operations," said Lt. Col. Joseph Angel, 728th AMS commander. "The purpose of the LSEP is to provide AMC headquarters and unit commanders with an independent assessment of a unit's ability to perform key logistics processes in a safe, well trained, technically compliant manner while promoting a culture of professional excellence and personal responsibility." The AMC command standard for all units is satisfactory with scores of excellent and particularly outstanding being awarded to units exhibiting truly superior evaluation results and flawless execution. "The 728th logistics functions were rated excellent" said Colonel Angel. "As noted by the team chief in their report, this was achieved in the midst of a very high op tempo, and in direct support of the global war on terrorism. In fact, the first day of the LSEP inspection was one of the busiest days in months for the 728th. The squadron received over 340 short tons of cargo via four 747s and loaded/delivered over 320 short tons of cargo via eight C-17 sorties." Other 728th sections also did very well on the inspection. "The performance of the forward supply section was exceptionally noteworthy as the team at Incirlik garnered the first-ever 'team award' for outstanding performance given by an inspection," said the colonel. "The performance of the aerial port was overall graded outstanding and the maintenance operations was graded excellent." AMS leadership said it was a total team effort. "Maintenance and supply personnel were evaluated on 268 tasks during the course of the LSEP," said Maj. Madalyn Marlatt, 728th Maintenance Flight commander. "That is a lot of inspections accomplished in just a few days, and our folks really highlighted their skills in getting the mission done even with the added pressure of inspectors looking over their shoulders. AMS personnel do great work each and every day, and it is really exciting to have an outside agency validate that fact." "The best thing about this inspection is that the whole team of total force Airmen came together," added Capt. James Burnham, 728th Aerial Port Operations chief. "We knew we were the best, and now we've proven it."
