USAFE crowns new idol Published April 17, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Nathan W. Lipscomb 39th Communications Squadron INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- After astonishing Team Incirlik with his vocal ability in the first round of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Idol competition, Staff Sgt. Jeff Nevison moved on to win the final round of competition April 14 at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Sergeant Nevison, a still photographer with the 39th Communications Squadron, was awarded first place in the USAFE Idol competition after receiving more votes than the other seven contestants. The contest brought together the top talent in USAFE to perform in front of over 500 spectators. Though he has been singing his whole life, and has won numerous competitions prior to contending in this one, he admits, "I was worried that my voice would fail me, and I was a little anxious about the competition since every one of the contestants was really good." Sergeant Nevison opened with "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain and then sang "Open Arms" by Journey to finish his idol experience. "I picked these songs to show my range in vocals," he said "They are also two songs that I've really enjoyed singing for quite some time," he said. Although this competition is behind him, Sergeant Nevison will always love the rush of performing for others. "I've been singing my whole life," he said. "I love the feeling of butterflies in my stomach and the adrenalin rushing through me when I sing for an audience. There's nothing quite like it."
