Team Incirlik awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Published April 23, 2007 By 1st Lt. Rose Richeson 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Congratulations Team Incirlik on winning the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for 2006! The text below includes direct excerpts from the official citation: From November 1, 2005, to December 31, 2006, Team Incirlik, made up of active duty, Reserve and Guard members, as well as, civilian and host nation personnel, exceeded mission requirements by providing premier forward operating base support to expeditionary forces and Iraq operations. Base members supported the delivery of more than 80 million gallons of fuel, the launching of more than 10,000 sorties and the transporting of more than 50 percent of air cargo into Iraq and Afghanistan. Concurrently, the support to sustaining garrison operations such as rotational squadron deployments and guardianship of the largest surety stockpile in Europe never faltered. The base's versatile mission support capability was validated during the 2006 U.S. Air Forces in Europe Surety Inspection when the Inspector General proclaimed the inspection was the "best seen in my two-year tenure." It was apparent the monthly wing runs had paid off when the fit-to-fight members of Team Incirlik were recognized for maintaining the number one Air Force fitness program in USAFE. The whole installation pulled together to welcome and care for fellow Americans affected by the Lebanon Noncombatant Evacuation Operation by processing, lodging and coordinating the onward movement of more than 1,700 people. Meals totaling more than 16,000 were served and 200-plus patients were treated during the seven-day operation. The can-do attitude of base personnel was epitomized when Incirlik was honored with the Air Force Innkeeper award, the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Hennessy Food Service award and the Eubank Services Squadron award. Using the motto, "Force protection, your life depends on it," the base garnered recognition as having the best Antiterrorism Force Protection program in the European Command. The distinctive accomplishments of the members of Team Incirlik reflect great credit upon themselves and the U.S. Air Force.
