Turkish nannies and parents got together to learn about cultural differences in American and Turkish child rearing at the Child Care and Development Seminar May 5. The Family Advocacy Program hosted the event in the multipurpose room at the Incirlik American School.

The guest speakers covered topics important to parents and nannies.

"This seminar helped Turkish nannies and parents learn from the experts about child rearing practices, child development, dental care, and safety/emergency response here at Incirlik," said Tracy Snider 39th Medical Group, Family Advocacy Outreach Manager.

Although the seminar provided valuable information to nannies and parents, it doesn't make the nannies certified childcare providers.

"This is an orientation to childcare and augments the arrangement with the parents," said Ms. Snider.

The event was sponsored by Airman Committed to Excellence, Incirlik Combined Spouses Club, and the First Sergeants' Council.

"As a whole, I really enjoyed the seminar. Tracy did a great job of organizing the day. All of the information was helpful. Having Turkish and English made sure everyone understood," said Jen Batz, who attended the seminar. "I really think this is something all nannies and their employers should attend."
