What are your teenagers doing? Published May 22, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Barbara Taylor 39th Air Base Wing Legal Office INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Want to know what your teen is doing on the computer? Maybe you should check myspace.com. Wise parents want to know what their teenagers are doing. When you find out what they are doing, you may find there's a part of your teenager's life you are missing out on. Many teenagers spend a lot of time on the computer instant messaging, uploading pictures, or just sending e-mail on the myspace.com Web site. Myspace.com is now the fifth largest Internet Web site in the world. On myspace.com, you can meet people from your area, make new friends, and find old friends. Despite these laudable attributes, the Web site is not immune to misuse. Sexual predators can also access the site and use it as a platform to contact children. This is a very dangerous mix - since children in the past have admited and displayed their own promiscuities, over indulgences and vulnerabilities on MySpace. On any given day, a parent (or anyone else for that matter) can logon to myspace.com and learn the events of the past weekend first hand from teenagers. They often freely display pictures and posts from their parties. So, if you're interested in finding out what your children and their friends are up to, sign up for your own myspace, log-in and have a look around. Access to myspace.com has now been prohibited on government computers by Department of Defense protocols.
