Travel request forms vital to force protection Published May 22, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Tiffany Colburn 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Knowing where all Team Incirlik members are is critical to base force protection. Submitting a travel request form may seem like a small detail, but could play a big role in keeping you safe. "The reason for filling out a travel request form is plain and simple, accountability. As you know last year we had several incidents off base and had to perform 100 percent accountability checks," said Master Sgt. Daniel Goodwin, 39th Communications Squadron first sergeant. "Pulling up the Travel Request page gives the Commander a very quick, and hopefully accurate, means of accounting for and contacting squadron personnel." Before you fill out the form check the latest antiterrorism force protection directive. The request form can be found on the Source under Travel and Leisure. Once the form is completed and submitted, it's forwarded to the appropriate commander for approval. Remember to submit your requests early in the week so commanders have time to review it. There are certain times when you need to fill out a Travel Request form, which all active duty members should be aware of. "Basically if you're leaving the local area you need to fill out a travel request form. Local Area is defined as anywhere within 20 miles of Incirlik AB, i.e. the city of Adana," said Sergeant Goodwin. This is straight from the antiterrorism force protection directive. Also members staying anywhere overnight (to include Adana) you need to file a travel request. This includes leave and temporary duty assignments." Besides filling out a travel request form there are other ways to stay safe. When you are traveling, make sure you are not traveling alone and that someone in your group has a cell phone. There is no such thing as being too safe.
