"We want to make the youth center a place where the kids can have fun," said Rose Lime, 39th Services Squadron youth programs director. "We want the kids to think of the youth center as a second home, where they can interact and socialize with other kids in a good environment." Whether its chess club, gymnastics or even teen nights, the youth center here has something to offer everyone. "We have an exciting before and after school program where kids have a chance to unwind from school, get help with homework and participate in a wide variety of activities ranging from art projects, to cooking club, to fitness activities," said Isaac Kasper, 39th SVS Youth Center school age program coordinator. The youth center allows children to socialize with their friends and play games while also learning. The youth get help with homework, have weekly cooking and fitness clubs and are provided a safe, fun social atmosphere. "It's a fun, learning experience for children," said Michelle Gomez, 39th SVS Youth Center school age assistant. "The kids have a chance to not only learn about history, science, culture, etc., but get dirty and explore these things in a hands on way that they don't always get in other places," Mr. Kasper The youth center has membership fees of $18 for six months and $36 for one year. By purchasing the membership, youth receive discount prices on sports, teen, and open recreation events. Membership also allows children to checkout video and board games and allows members to participate in other planned events the youth center has to offer. "For many youth on base, we are a great 'hang out' place," said Mr. Kasper. "In order to remain relevant we have to be sure that we offer activities and events that will meet all of their needs."
