Are you a new teen to the Incirlik community? If so, Teen Link is a great way to learn about the variety of base services and activities available to teens in grades six to 12.

As a teen reading this article you may be thinking, "sponsoring new members is something my parent does at work." I'm here to tell you that the incoming family members are just as much in need of sponsors as active duty members. The Teen Link program is set up to match incoming teens with their own sponsors.

Peer sponsors are recommended by teachers at the Incirlik American School and are scheduled to participate in the program's two sessions. Session I includes an orientation to base activities, an introduction to the Turkish culture and refreshments. Session II includes Incirlikopoly - a fun way to learn more about the local area, an Army and Air Force Exchange Service tour and lunch at the Turkish Café.

Teen Link meets Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and peer sponsors are assigned at the first session the new member attends. A total of nine program schedules are offered during the summer to help teens transition to the base. Some of the benefits of participating include getting to know base residents in your age group, the opportunity to ask questions about your new base and beginning your stay here with a positive start by touring some of the facilities available to teens.

The program is sponsored by Community Uplift/Integrated Delivery System, Adolescent Substance Abuse Counseling Service, AAFES, Department of Defense Dependent Schools, the Incirlik American School Parent/Teacher/Student Council and Incirlik youth programs.
