Train others to be fit-to-fight Published Aug. 10, 2007 By Senior Airman Tiffany Colburn 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- The Physical Training Leader Class is available for Airmen who want to be qualified to lead PT in large groups such as squadron or flight PT and administer the Fitness Assessments. There is also the PTL refresher class for those who have been a PTL for more than a year or who feel they need a refresher session. Both classes are offered at the Health and Wellness Center once a month. "The maximum amount of people per class is 12, but if a squadron needs to send more people, we will accommodate them. We are very flexible," said Betul Onat, 39th Medical Group HAWC administrative assistant. Currently the PTL classes are offered at the HAWC by Ms. Onat. Once an individual completes the class they are not only qualified to lead PT, but they can also train other Airmen to be PTLs. "Once someone has been trained by another PTL, the PTL should give me a call and I will e-mail them the certificate," said Ms. Onat. "Once the PTL and I have signed the certificate the new trainee will be fully qualified." The classes discuss different methods of stretching and work out programs. The classes are small, allowing the instructor to work with the individuals and make sure they understand different concepts for when they lead groups or Airmen in PT. "The staff at the HAWC was very helpful in explaining and demonstrating all the various recommended stretches as well as numerous strength and endurance exercises," said Master Sgt. Steven Mullens, 39th Mission Support Squadron Career Assistance advisor. "They also spent a great deal of time familiarizing us with AFI 10-248 'Fitness Program,' the instruction that governs our responsibilities." If you would like to sign up for a class or have any questions, call the HAWC at 676-8256.
