Court-Martial Conviction Sends Strong Anti-Abuse Message Published Dec. 10, 2007 By 39th Air Base Wing judge advocate 39th ABW/JA INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Senior Airman Nathaniel Lacy, 39th Logistical Readiness Squadron, was recently found guilty in a summary court-martial of assaulting his wife. Senior Airman Lacy entered guilty pleas on two specifications of assault consummated by battery, in violation of Article 128, Uniform Code of Military Justice. Senior Airman Lacy assaulted his wife in their base housing unit on Sept. 23, 2007 while Senior Airman Lacy's wife was recuperating from major surgery. Upon finding that Senior Airman Lacy committed the offenses and that his guilty pleas were valid, the summary court-martial officer--Lt. Col. Douglas Wall, 39 Mission Support Squadron commander--sentenced Senior Airman Lacy to 10 days confinement, 10 days hard labor without confinement, reduction in rank to Airman First Class, and forfeiture of $600. In addition, Senior Airman Lacy's promotion to Staff Sgt. was redlined. Six witnesses testified on Senior Airman Lacy's behalf. The witnesses testified that Senior Airman Lacy was a good duty performer and a "go-to" Airman in the squadron. Senior Airman Lacy also made an unsworn statement in which he apologized to his family, his unit and to the base. "By imposing confinement and reducing Senior Airman Lacy in rank, the court sent a strong message that spousal abuse absolutely will not be tolerated at Incirlik Air Base or in the Air Force," said Capt. Shane McCammon, 39 ABW/JA. "This no-nonsense message applies regardless of an Airman's good duty performance, impressive Enlisted Performance Reports, and exemplary behavior in other areas," he said.
