Action Line #80206 - Training Days

Complaint:

I understand that wing training days are a necessary thing, especially for those units in a customer support role who work all day and train very little. What I don't understand is why many of those units allow their individuals to have the day off after the wing run and not report into work for training at all. Sure it's just one day a month, but USAFE bases also seem to get more days off than any other command I've seen. It makes it really difficult to accomplish tasks that pop up last minute. Same thing applies to safety stand down days. There always seems to be an above average amount of Airmen walking around in civilian clothes on these days. Also, if people are going to take these days off and not train for their jobs, they can hold their squadron functions on these days instead of further reducing the work week by having them on regular duty days. I'm not asking for a day off for myself, I have too much work to do as it is. I was just wondering what the policy is regarding these days.

Response:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and allowing me to clarify the policy. Wing training days are official duty days and all the standard day-to-day policies apply as they do every day. I will re-emphasize this fact with my commanders in order to make sure everyone understands that fact. These are not to be days off!
