Action line - 80302 Wing runs Published March 24, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I have a suggestion for the wing formation run that we have at the end of each month. I am a huge fan of running and an even bigger fan of camaraderie so I enjoy the wing formation runs but, because everyone has a different speed, it actually hurts to run because of the speed changing constantly. I would like to propose a change to the formation line up. Currently we run in our individual squadrons, what if we promote cohesion of the wing by building the formations to coincide with the speeds that each Airman can run? I believe we would have less fall outs and we can bring the members of this wing even closer together. Thank you for your consideration. Response: I am glad that you enjoy the wing formation runs and agree they are a great way to build camaraderie. In fact, I view the wing runs as much more of a camaraderie/team-building event than PT, which is why we structure the formation as we do. The squadron remains the basic building block of our expeditionary force and as such I feel it important to build up the squadron as often as possible. Organizing by squadron during wing runs allows us to do that. As for the pace, we shoot for a pace that accommodates most of the folks in the wing. While some find the pace too slow, as many others find it too fast ... I think we've found a happy medium from some of the feedback we have received. Please encourage your squadron mates during our wing runs; with your support I hope fewer and fewer will fall out of formation in the future.
