Action line - #80305 - TSgt Dorms Published April 7, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I was just curious as to why Dorm 892 is not the TSgt dorm anymore. When I was stationed here a few years back it was; and it seemed to work out very well. As a TSgt, I would much rather have my own facilities. I brought my own bed, big screen and so on expecting more room than what I have now. If we have the facilities to allow NCO's to have their privacy, why not? Response: Thanks for an interesting question; let me answer by explaining the Air Force dormitory management policy. Incirlik and the Air Force in general houses unaccompanied personnel by unit (squadron or group). This "unit integrity" enhances unit esprit-de-corps and provides an invaluable opportunity for off-duty mentoring as it creates situations where NCOs and lower-ranking Airmen spend time together and work through the challenges associated with sharing a living space. As for the dormitory you mentioned, 892 is now the Air Mobility Squadron dormitory. Bottom line is the line has to be drawn somewhere and for many reasons, available space being one of them, we house our SNCOs in their own dorms and NCOs with their squadrons. I ask you share your experience and expertise with your fellow dorm residents and know that when you earn your next stripe you'll be afforded the additional space you desire. Finally, I would add that your sponsor let you down by not telling you up front not to bring a lot of the furniture you mentioned. I will make sure this issue is emphasized in our sponsor training.
