Complaint:

I'm an avid lap swimmer who hasn't gotten much response from pool management on this issue; so I'm hoping you can resolve the following:

The pool opens up at 1100-1300 for lap swimming. However, ever since lap swimming started there have been only 4 possible lanes for lap swimmers and the rest of the pool (which is really about another 6 lanes) is for physical therapy patients and open swimmers.

I have observed on more than 10 occasions; the following: at about 1130 on the majority of days; the lap lanes fill up so much that there are 2 to 3 people sharing lanes which obviously besides it's annoyance raises a safety issue.

Some of the feedback I got from pool staff, as well as, my own observance is that most of the pool loungers hardly use the pool. Moreover, physical therapy needs a lane or two but not 6.

Is there any way we can gain back a few lanes for lap swimmers and leave only the space of say 2 or 3 lanes for the others?

Response:

Thank you for the opportunity to explain our new lap swim policy.

Lap swimming is available in two different sessions Monday - Friday; 0600-0700 and 1000-1245. The entire pool is available for lap swimming during the earlier session, however since there were numerous requests to open the pool to the general public earlier in the day, the latter session overlaps with open swim times.

Historically, very few lap swimmers utilized the mid day lap swim session and this trend has continued this season. In order to accommodate both lap and open swimmers during this time, we reduced the number of lap swim lanes. We expect more people to utilize the open swimming portion of the pool once school ends as kids/families generally tend to come to the pool earlier in the day during summer school break.

I have instructed the pool staff to monitor the need for more lanes carefully and also to determine if the lap swim hours should be adjusted to meet demand. Our objective is to provide optimum services to the maximum number of customers. I appreciate your interest and thank you again for your input.
