Action Line #80503 - Taxi drivers Published June 12, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I have a concern about the taxi drivers. Several times I have seen them driving through base housing going way over the speed limit. My sons play in our cul-de-sac and I have yelled at the taxi drivers before for speeding. I have also seen them a couple of times drive up on the sidewalk and grass to avoid the speed bumps. This is just uncalled for. Last night my son was walking along the sidewalk and was almost hit by one because the taxi driver was going so fast and driving up on the sidewalk. This is very dangerous, and it is killing the grass by my house that was just planted a couple of weeks ago. They have just replaced the grass and sidewalks near my house. Someone could get seriously injured if something is not done fast. Response: Thank you for keeping a watchful eye on our community and informing me of this problem. Please know that I take this very seriously and as such have asked my 10th Tanker Command counterpart to remind our taxi drivers to slow down, especially in our housing areas. I've also instructed our Security Forces patrols to increase their presence in the housing areas and to be vigilant for folks driving above the speed limit. Additionally we're looking at installing obstacles next to the speed bumps to prevent folks from driving around them. Lastly, I also need your help in order to target individual drivers who violate speed limits and threaten our safety. If you observe this type of behavior please note the specific time and location of the incident and if possible any identifying information for the specific taxi and immediately pass this to the LE desk. This will allow us to take appropriate action against the specific driver and should solve this problem.
