Action Line #80501 - Kids at the movies Published June 13, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: With there being a shortage of off base activities, one of the things my wife and I enjoy doing is going to a movie at the local theater. However that becomes hard to do with a large crowd of underage loudmouth kids there. On a few occasions the movies were pg 13 and rated R. Being a parent, it's pretty easy to figure out how old these kids are. Where are these kids' parents? Are there any regulations prohibiting kids to enter these movies without there parents? If so, why aren't they be enforced? To add to that, it really burns me up to see parents with small children in these movies with strong language and sexual themes. Could anything be done about this or is it a lost cause? Thanks in advance for your response. Response: Thanks for your question and as a parent I share your concern. When showing PG-13 or R- rated movies, AAFES does require patrons under the age of 17 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is required to show proper identification and tell the ticket taker that the patron may attend that movie. After doing this parents/guardians are not obligated to purchase admission or enter the theater themselves. AAFES does not have a policy that prevents parents from bringing small children to movies with strong language or sexual themes; however we strongly encourage our parents to act responsibly when deciding whether or not to do this. Lastly, while we cannot continually monitor how individuals act or how they respond during movies, AAFES personnel do walk the theater every 15 minutes to ensure no one is talking loudly or disturbing the rest of the audience. If you notice this type of behavior I encourage you to inform the duty manager so the manager can take appropriate action.
