Action line #80605 - Sultan's Inn policy Published June 24, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I have recently become aware of the Sultan's Inn Dining Facility policy. From my knowledge of the policy, there are some limitations on who can dine in the facility. Dependents nor GS employees (to name a few) are not permitted to dine in the facility. However, I am aware that dependents can dine in the facility in the event that they are PCSing in or PCSing out of Incirlik AB, Turkey. Before I became knowledgeable of the policy, I have had the opportunity to dine in the facility. I was impressed with the food selection, quality, and the appearance of the facility. In addition, the facility also offers options between lighter or heavier calorie meals. I have to honestly admit that Sultan's has the best food on the base! The limitations on the facility are unfortunate due to the limited dining on the base. Please reconsider. Response: First, let me thank you for taking time to write about our Dining Facility. It's easy to understand why everyone wants to eat at the Sultan's Inn: it has won the USAFE Food Excellence Award the past two years. Air Force Instruction 34-239 specifies who is and who is not eligible to utilize the facility. "The Air Force operates APF enlisted dining facilities in order to provide the subsistence entitlements to enlisted members who reside in the dormitories, to provide a training environment for food service personnel to meet our war-fighting mission, and to provide flight meals service in support of daily operations." While exeptions may authorize others to eat meals in the dining facility (and you have named a few which we have authorized), we have to be careful not to overextend our facility's capabilities. Our current policy has taken all factors into account and balances mission requirements with "nice to do" services within our capabilities and the intent of AF Instructions. Please note both AAFES and NAF food establishments have active advisory boards that take into account customer comments. I encourage you to participate and share your suggestions to ensure their products and services take into account customer's needs and desires.
