Action line 80807 - High School Track Published Aug. 19, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: Recently my husband and I have been going to the track located behind the high school and have noticed people blatantly disregarding the rules posted on the fence. There have been nights where dogs have been on the track both on leashes and off, people skateboarding and biking, and cars have been parked inside the fence these rules are being disregarded by both Americans and our Turkish Nationals. There are parts of the track that are uneven and getting torn up and can be a hazard to those who are running and walking on the track. Another issue is track courtesy. If you see someone running on the inside lane isn't it only right to move out of their way, again this is both Americans and Turkish personnel. What can be done to make sure the rules are being enforced and to keep from damaging the track even further? I understand not much can be done about the courtesy rule besides asking them nicely to move, but it is a nightly thing with the skateboards, bikes and dogs. We have asked Americans to please take it off the track, but with the local nationals it's really difficult with the language differences and they make take offence if they don't correctly understand what we are saying. Response: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It is important the Incirlik community understand the rules for the running track are posted to help extend its useful life and help keep folks safe. Those who disregard the posted rules by allowing pets, bicycles and skateboards are speeding the deterioration of the running surface. As corrective action, we will lock the vehicle access gate, post additional signs (in Turkish and English) and step-up the frequency of current monitoring activities. Please don't hesitate in reminding others of the posted rules. Together, we can take steps to encourage members of our community to keep their activities within the parameters set forth by the rules that govern a healthy community.
