Action line 80802 - Robinhood

Complaint:

Is there anyway someone can look into getting a Robinhood back on base. There is really no option for healthy food here. I hear there is a Sandwich line at the Dining facility. But only active duty members are allowed to purchase food there.

It doesn't help the rest of the community who is trying to stay fit and would like to enjoy a healthy meal out. I know the commissary has ready made sandwiches which are nice. But it's not the same. Also, I heard of a Starbucks that was supposed to be here in July ... what is the status of that?

Response:

Thanks for raising this question and, while we currently don't plan to bring Robin Hood here, we used to have one. It went out of business a while back due to low patronage.

However, I think there are several options you can pursue for healthy lunch choices. For example, Coffee Express has recently added a variety of warm and cold sandwiches to their menu. They are located between AAFES New Car Sales and Electronic Repair Shop on B Street.

In addition, our local Services activities offer a variety of healthy options at their facilities. For example, the Golf Course café offers a variety of freshly made salads and sandwiches, as does the Consolidated Club. Also, the Fitness Center juice bar offers several different wraps, made fresh daily during lunch time with a healthy heart in mind.

Meanwhile, there are some healthy food choices at the BX food court. Limited choices, I agree, but nonetheless available. For example, the Side Garden Salad at BK is only 15 calories. The Beef Taco at Taco Bell is 170, and the Pizza Hut Veggie is 270. I personally recommend the commissary; they have very good sandwiches and at a very reasonable price. I generally grab a sandwich and some yoghurt or cottage cheese for an outstanding healthy lunch (and very cheap).

The status of Starbucks: we are working with our host nation to obtain the necessary approvals to begin construction on Starbucks. We hoped to have the rigorous contracting requirements completed by now, but we had to overcome some road blocks. We fortunately are back on track and you should see more details regarding an opening date in the coming weeks. Keep thinking healthy!
