Action line - 80808 - DFAC dress standards Published Aug. 28, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I have been TDY here for the last several months, and have noticed that there is a declining trend in standards for people using the Sultan's Inn. I fully understand that with the 100+ degree weather and 99 percent humidity that shorts/short sleeves is almost a must, but the last several nights at dinner and midnight meal, there were individuals who looked like they just finished a marathon gym workout complete with sweat-drenched shirts, shorts and flip-flops. Every dining facility I have been to around the military has a minimum dress code, I'm assuming for décor as well as health reasons, but the rules were posted and enforced accordingly. Here either there is no enforcement or no rules, and seeing the state of some of the patrons, makes me not want to eat anything they may have dripped on (i.e. salad bar). I've filled out several comment cards (not expecting any answers), but nothing was apparently done. Thank you. Response: Thanks for affording me the opportunity to reiterate the dress code policy at the Sultan's Inn. It has been almost one year since this issue was last raised and with the continued rotation of Incirlik personnel, it is important to educate our new Airmen as well as remind those who have been here awhile. The dress code policy, which is posted in the foyer of the facility, is clear. Specifics include: - Military uniforms will be worn as specified in AFI 36-2903, Dress and Personnel Appearance of the Air Force Personnel. - Civilian dress must be clean, in good repair and in good taste. Printed slogans must not be offensive in nature or contain profanity. - Shoes must be worn in the facility and hats will not be worn inside. - Swimwear and soiled athletic clothing are not authorized. Athletic clothing appropriate for street wear is authorized provided that it is clean and not inappropriately revealing. Attire that is inappropriately revealing (e.g. Exposing the chest or midriff or buttocks) is not authorized. These standards are clear and simple and ensure our patrons enjoy their meals in a safe and sanitary environment. I have reminded the management and staff at the Sultan's Inn to enforce this policy, and ask your help in following the guidelines set for all.
