A member of the 39th Air Base Wing, Izmir, was the lucky winner in an Extreme Summer giveaway in July.

Senior Airman Kevin Bentley from the 425th Air Base Group, Izmir, won a $1,000 check by just gaining Extreme Summer points and entering them into the competition by the bundles.

According to the Extreme Summer Web site, www.extremesummer.com, earning points and logging them into the site is simple. Contestants earn points by participating in Services' events and activities, or purchasing Services' items is how participants earn points.

"It started out like any other day until I was called into an office with my entire flight leadership standing there," said Airman Bentley.

Then Col. Richard Robel, 425 ABG commander, and Lt. Colonel Kellie Davila-Martinez, 425 ABG deputy commander, walked in, he said. "Colonel Robel called me front and center and proceeded to pull out an Extreme summer points card and said he understood that I like to participate in activities."

Airman Bentley went along with the set up not knowing what was to come next.

"The colonel wanted to play 'Let's Make a Deal' and offered me the card or what was behind door number two," said Airman Bentley.

Airman Bentley took his chances by choosing option two to find out what was hiding behind the door.

"It was opened and out walked someone from Services with a giant check made out for $1,000," he said.

Airman Bentley participated in the Extreme Summer Program hoping to gain enough points to make it in the top three percent to be eligible for the grand prize drawing at the end of the promotion. He collected as many points possible until about the third week of the month and then entered them all in at once.

Some of the grand prizes included a 2008 Ford Focus, a trip to Disneyland, a NASCAR trip and an Edelweiss Vacation package. Besides the monthly prize of a $1,000, there are plenty of runner-up prizes to include cell phones, MP3 players and even Air Force Vacation Club vouchers. The Extreme Summer Program ends Aug 31.

Although the summer is coming to a close, Services encourages base members to sign up for next year's Extreme Summer program for a chance to win some great prizes.

"I really didn't expect to win anything; I was totally caught off guard," Airman Bentley said. "It was definitely exciting."
