Action line 80911 - DFAC closing Published Sept. 24, 2008 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I have heard many different rumors surrounding the fate of the dining facility in the next couple of months; Such as, it is closing for 60 days, it is going to be temporarily located in the old tent city "clam shell", it is going to relocate to the Consolidated Club, it is going to move to the old Burger King Food Court. I am curious because I am deployed to Incirlik, stay in lodging, and do not have a car. I am also on meal card and would be without meal service if the dining facility closed. If it is in fact closing, will TDY personnel be given per diem in lieu of government provided meals? My lodging room does not have cooking facilities either which limits my options to the microwave for 60 days if that is the case. Response: Great question! I'm very glad you raised it. Currently, our dining facility is undergoing a major utility upgrade. The facility, built in 1988, requires upgrades to the electrical and plumbing systems. I'm sure you've noticed the airflow is inadequate in certain areas of the facility. The current electrical system is maxed-out and plumbing is inadequate. This upgrade will fix all that. Now to your question. Yes, the dining facility will be closing on or around Nov 13th. There will be no interruption to service for Incirlik meal card holders and those in deployment status. These personnel will be fed at an alternate facility - Building 957, otherwise known as the old Burger King. However, since this facility is smaller than what we currently use, I will have to restrict access for all other personnel not listed above (those on per diem, active duty permanent party, etc.) We expect the dining facility to re-open in mid-January. For those who use the dining facility now, but are not a meal card holder, there are plenty of other options available: the Bowling Center, Golf Course, Consolidated Club and BX, to name a few. A favorite for lunch is the soup, salad and breadstick special at the Club - with member discount it is a steal at only $4.95! Communication is vital; thank you for giving me the opportunity to get the word out.
