Wing Safety to debut new fall, winter safety campaigns Published Oct. 1, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Jeff Nevison 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- The 39th Air Base Wing Safety office is creating a fall and winter safety campaign much like 101 Critical Days of Summer to keep the Incirlik community informed and safety-conscious year round. This year's inaugural Joint-Service Fall Safety Campaign will be led by the Air Force and will run through November. "The fall safety campaign will be the bridge from where the 101 CDS campaign left off and where the winter safety campaign begins," said Master Sgt. Jason Beaty, 39 ABW ground safety manager. Wing Safety is making sure that fall and winter safety is emphasized and publicized as much as 101 CDS. "The safety office has always made articles, power point presentations and other safety publications available to keep personnel informed about safety issues," said Tech. Sgt. Michael Rogers, 39 ABW ground safety non-commissioned officer in-charge. "We want to ensure personnel are as mindful of safety matters during the fall and winter seasons as they are during 101 CDS." Sergeant Rogers believes there is good reason for publicizing fall and winter safety. "It has been documented that the Air Force has more fatalities during this time of year then during the 101 CDS," he said. There are many areas of focus for fall and winter safety campaigns: traffic, sports, recreation, work, and school safety and Sergeant Beaty says there are many issues that make the fall and winter months just as serious as 101 CDS. "The main concern is that children are back in school now, so we have to watch out for them and other pedestrians," said Sergeant Beaty. "Those are just a few hazards that fall and winter present and we all need to remain focused and alert." Aside from pedestrian safety, there are also concerns of inclement weather. "The winter months present various hazards such as, rainy weather and snow in the mountains, causing roads to be slick," said Sergeant Beaty. There are many expectations for positive results in the debut of the Joint-Service Fall Safety Campaign. "Our overall goal and expectation is to change the way people think during this time of year when safety concerns may be overlooked," said Sergeant Rogers. "The main focus with this new program is to eliminate mishaps altogether." For more information, contact the wing Safety office at 676-7233.
